You would think after doing the O.W.L.s Exams Readathon through April and only barely finishing the prompts to become a Magizooligist that I would want to take a break from reading or at least readathons. But my dang wonderful coworker told me about another readathon called Medieval-A-Thon that goes for the month of May that sounded like so much fun that I had to participate. I mean it’s based off of medieval Europe and you get to build a character if you want! Doesn’t that sound awesome? I seriously should have done a post about it at the beginning of the month so that all two of my readers could participate if they want to as well, but I was pretty busy at the start of May so you’ll have to do it next year. Let me tell you a little bit about Medieval-A-Thon so that you can see how cool it is and want to do it next year (if readathons are your thing, which it’s totally okay if they aren’t). I won’t go into too much detail since I’m also going to link the creator’s (Holly Hearts Books) video down below. That way you can “get all the deets”, as the kids say. Basically, the amount of books you read determines your social standing in this made up medieval word (how many times can I say the word “medieval” before it stops sounding like a word? Medieval medieval medieval…). 0 books means you are a prisoner… which means anyone who didn’t read anything in May is technically a prisoner. That’s sad. 1 book means you are a peasant. Hurray for you! You aren’t in prison! 2 books means you are a squire for a knight. Gotta shovel some horse poop, maybe, but at least you have a steady job and a brave boss. 3 books means you are a knight. Woo, really moving up in the world! Keep up the good work! 4 books means you are a member of the nobility. Dang, you own land and everything. Someone is uppercrust. 5 books means you are a prince/princess. Fancy pants over here. 6 books makes you a king/queen, which means you are really a boss now. 7 books puts you on the imperial level and makes you an emperor/empress. Yeah! Run that empire! Anywho, I achieved the rank of empress, which is pretty exciting. And if it weren’t awesome enough that you can become royalty, you also get to earn STUFF. You can follow certain reading prompts (like “read a book with a shiny cover”) to get different outfits, weapons, or even pets! I earned a few different outfits, a bow and arrow, a sword, and a pet chicken (I named her Sandra). I don’t typically like scary books, but I needed that chicken so I sucked it up and read a sort of scary book. I was going to read Coraline by Neil Gaiman for my scary book, but I don’t think I could handle it. The books that I did read are listed below and I may review some of them at a later date.
Anywho, those were my reads for Medieval-A-Thon 2020. We had some highs and some lows, but ultimately I very much enjoyed this readathon and I’m definitely planning on doing it again next year! I had so much fun coming up with a character and collecting items. I even wrote journal entries for my character describing her rise to power. Maybe I’ll post those next along with the picture that I drew of her and Sandra (the chicken).
Well, that’s all the rambling I’m going to do now, but be sure to check out Holly Hearts Books and the original video for this readathon! Holly Hearts Books Medieval-A-Thon Announcement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xH08DxANtyo
